    Age 40, any good news?

I have 10 days left of my 30s and i am profoundly depressed about it.

    Permanent loss of brain cells.
3 times more likely to get cancer.
    Double the chance of osteoporosis.
    Irreversible loss of skin elasticity.
    85% of eggs infertile.
    Decreased maximum heart rate.
    Lower metabolic rate.
    Increased fat retention.
    Weaker muscle adaptation to training.
    Acceleration of tooth loss.
Irreversible decline in hearing, vision, taste and smell.
    Impending urinary incontinence.

Apart from a new vet category and not being dead, is there any good news?

Fab! My fourties have so far been the best decade of my life! I am 48 now, so two more years to go, but I have definitely been fitter than I have been and have achieved some pretty good stuff, sports wise and otherwise. It has been the most fun I have had so far in my life

I know you already tend to win most races but you're defo going to win v40. Also, but this may not apply to you, when I turned 40 I stopped giving a shit about my appearance. Now I just shave/haircut when my wife tells me.

Mmmmm, now let me think back a bit 1. The kids were at an age where they didn't need babysitters and I was looking forward to them leaving home so I could replace them with stray dogs
    2. I was comfortable enough in my own skin to go to the shops without doing my hair.
    3. If I didn't like someone's opinion I gave them mine (in a nice way).
    4. I discovered mountains, climbed one and didn't die (I still hate Crib Goch) ..... Then climbed several hundred more.
5 - 50. I forget as its all been mad, wonderful, fabulousness of crazy good stuff.

Oooo, and best of all I met MrRTS at 50 and married him
So my fab 40's have now turned into my fit 50's

Blooming heck...how depressing! I never even thought about that stuff when I turned 40.

In my 30s my long term relationship broke up, I sold my house and have never afforded to buy another and my dad died of cancer. Major turning points but since then I've travelled the world, become a full-time artist, live in a place that I love and have met someone that I'm really happy with. Life gets better and better and I'd say I'm fitter, healthier, slimmer, more successful, more fulfilled and more confident. I'm 42. I'm with Hanneke on this, my forties have been great so far. Why concentrate on the negatives when there are so many positives?

I can't really say I've noticed the rolling of the decades. I tend to just crack on! Though as a basic I'd say I'm happier now than I've ever been. When I turned 30 and 40 I did go out and do something to test my fitness but at 50 I didn't bother. looking forward to 60 and retiring tbh!
