    Cheviot Challenge2013

Although not a running race more of a walking challenge, thought I'd have a go at this to brush up on my orienteering skills and beast the legs a bit in the process.

Haven't heard much about this on the forum, standfast one thread where I read runners were welcome to take part, and wondering if anyone's having a jaunt over there Saturday?

wish I had known about this a week ago. Have now planned this weekend- but that would have done nicely. They should publish it via LDWA (which does have non-LDWA events on the list) Have fun

Great event welcome to runners aswell as walkers, would definately recommend to others, short 14mile and long 23mileish (by my GPS) options and good friendly atmosphere, plus you finish at the alwinton pub which serves a cracking pint of the black stuff. Good mixture of terrain going from grassy and gravelly tracks,to the slippery slabs and bogs up by the pennine way. Will be back next year for sure.

Had a trot around this yesterday - 23miles and 3300' feet ascent. A terrific event still and one that attracts all sorts with runners very welcome and very much in the minority. The MRT organisers could not have been more friendly. Route was Alwinton - Clennel St - border ridge east of Windy Gyle - over WG to the Street - down the Street to Barrowburn - up to Fairhough - down to Schillmoor (sp?) and over Pass Peth and home. Nice to chat to a couple of NFR lads too.
