Up the track at the north end of Torver and past houses at Scarr Head, through the disuused quarries havving crossed Torver Beck and up to Walna Scarr Road. Cross the road and up the obvious nose to the summit and then back along the same route. Getting the right llinne down can be a problem in clag - I got well lost last year, despite having done it twice before.
A great race.
Don't forget to stay to watch the terrier racing afterwards!
Don't confuse the Lakeland Country Fair race on 19th August with the Coniston Country Fair race this Sunday .
Thanks chaps. Hope it's not claggy on the day, looks like there's a big quarry to fall into just off the nose if you got it badly wrong.
I've not done the race, (intend doing it this year though), but I have been up there a couple of times and if I remember correctly, (which doesn't always happen since I reached 50!) the quarries are a bit to the left of the word "Quarries" on the 1:50000 OS map, so even if you go badly wrong I don't think you need worry. On the other hand if you go very badly wrong....
Did this one yesterday and really enjoyed it.
A long run out, but I made good ground on the climb. Was some good banter flying about too.
Failed to pick a good line of the descent.
Nick Sharp won it, he didn't look like he was trying as he skipped down past me.
Anyone know where the results might be posted?
Also, there was a photographer there, anyone know who it was and where his photos might be accessed?
I was just about to ask the same questions. It was my first fell race and I thoroughly enjoyed it, well sort of! Can't wait for the next one.
the photographer is Ian friend of the famous Walker boy - pictures will appear on Rochdale Harriers website in the next few days as our web guru Brummy Jon is on holiday at present
Cheers for that sb, good race yesterday.Wicked descent, i can still feel it in my thighs.
