Just booked myself in for this. Need to sort a recce as it covers some ground I am not so familiar with.... Looks like just the sort of event I need to get under my belt though

    I'm in.

I'll probably recce the eastern half of this (Askham to Side Farm & back) as my next mid-week "day-off-work-er"
(depending on how much snow there is up on High Street! )

There are about half a dozen of us from Macc doing this and have arranged a recce on the weekend of the Hobble... Wasn't planned to be that weekend per se, but the dates just fell that way. Going up Friday 14th and doing a BG leg, (don't know which yet) then LM42 route over the next two days...big days out in the hills being the aim of the game.

Give me a shout if you can make it, Daz.

    fantastic day on this today
Askham-RampsgillHead (didn't bother bobbing up/down to High Street itself)
    -AngleTarn-SideFarm
    -PlaceFell (direct route straight up!)
-Boredale (new to me - gorgeous!)
    -Martindale-Howtown & back to Askham

this is one monster of a route
fortunately I seem to be getting a bit fitter, so really looking forward to it now...

Daz on race day if you take the direct route up Place fell I will bow down before you . A few of us did the 1st "loop" last Sunday with Joe and like you say it is a monster. Looking to have a leisurely stroll around the 2nd loop starting from Wythburn church on Tuesday.
This BG round & the training therein is dedicated to the fond memory of Daz H - there is no such word as can't.

Jasmin Paris and myself both did Place fell direct last year in the race... probably not something either of us would recommend as the ideal racing line (mind you we haven't tried the alternative).

I did the direct route just for the sheer hell of it
on race day, having additionally gone over Grisedale Tarn and back over Helvellyn, I suspect I will chicken out

it's worth it for the view though:

Recce'd a lot of this at the weekend... going to be a long day out.

In order to avoid the tops later in the day (as the weather was forecast to deteriorate) we did the Eastern side of it in reverse order...plus the clag was down on High Street. Hence, I think I'll go up again on Friday or next Monday and take another look (Askham -Loadpot - High Street - Place Fell - Side Farm and maybe upto Grisedale Tarn, then back on the return leg).

    You're right Daz...it's a bit of a monster.

Off for final recce tomorrow morning (Wed 26th)from Askham between 8.30 and 9am if anybody cares to join me? Look out for the black Landrover on the village hall car park. Going to do Askham-Loadpot-H Street-Angle Tarn-Boredale-Patterdale-Place Fell-Martindale and back to Askham.

Like the sound of the direct route up Place Fell, but not so sure I'll like the look of it so much when I'm at Side Farm.....!

Is there any/much snow around on this loop since the weekend??

    Colin
