    Race Report

The 2nd running of the Orchan Rocks Fell Race was last Tuesday 29th April from the Staff of Life Pub, Burnley Road Todmorden. Organised by local Tod Harrier Dan Taylor, the race takes in some of the quieter paths of the upper calder valley with stunning views along the way. 71 runners set off in dry conditions (after rain arrived then stopped just before the start). The race was won by local postman Alex Whittem, who cruised into the finish just 3 seconds off the record time. The ladies race was won again by in form Rebecca Patrick of Tod Harriers in a new record time of 28.53. There were also notable performances by Thomas Nelson of Wharfedale in the U16 category, breaking the record by over 3 minutes and also Richard Blakeley who won the V70s category in 33.42. The runners all enjoyed the evening, which ended with food and drink in the staff as they awaited the prize giving. The race has raised over £150 for charity, which this year will be going to the Overgate Hospice.

    Hi all,

The time is almost upon us for the 3rd running of the Orchan Rocks Fell Race. The race is once again from The Staff of Life Pub Burnley Rd Todmorden, date is tuesday 26th april. Its a quick 3.5 miles over lovely (mostly grassy) pennine terrain, with a cracking descent to the finish. This years event is in both Tod Harriers Grand Prix and also Calder Valleys so a good turnout of locals should be guaranteed.

Hope to see many faces new and old, remember its open to anyone 14 years or over.

    Cheers

We are all sorted for marshalls now hopefully. Looking like it could be a good turnout for us as its in both Calder Valley and Tod Harriers Grand Prix's this time. Its also only 11 days before the English Champs race at Up The Nab so may be a few sharpening up for that. Therefore can people please share cars and park away from the pub if possible (there will be marshalls to direct you).

A couple of years ago Tod Harriers Dan Taylor had a vision of sharing with us his training routes above Todmorden. After much hardwork Dan presented the fell calendar with three new races: Orchan Rocks, Bridestone and Hoofstones.

Today was the 3rd running of Orchan Rocks and what a cracking turnout given the dodgy weather forecast. Tod Harriers and CVFR both had the race in their fell champs and this helped swell the numbers to a very impressive 104 starters. It was going to be interesting at the front end with some good quality on show. Tim Ellis showed his class by breaking the course record and comfortably holding off the talented Joshua Boyle and last years winner Alex Whittem. Clear ladies winner and also claiming a new course record was 2015 British and English u23 Fell Champion Nichola Jackson of Preston Harriers.

Smashing little race and a great registration venue provided by The Staff of Life pub....the food in this pub is fantastic.

Many thanks to Dan and helpers.

Many thanks to all mar.shalls and helpers at last nights race. We had a record turnout of 104 which was great and we should have about £300 to donate to the CV search and rescue team.

Thanks for the kind words Darren coming from you they mean a lot, was good to chat to you and as I said I will be back.

I first walked up knotts to Orchan rocks on a school walk about aged 6. We visited the rocks and had a picnic. I've been hundreds of times since and nowadays often enjoy a game of hide and seek with my daughter and friends.

The route made its self As a natural lollipop and like others i absolutely love the fast grassy descent to the finish. It was great to see the bulk of the field chatting and relaxing in the sun afterwards after a strange days weather.

Results will be out later today ( there may be photos on Twitter already.

Great little race. Low key, well marshalled, but fast & furious ~ just what we need on a Tuesday night
Thanks for organising it Dan, sorry I couldn't stop for presentation.
See the light in the night
