    iPhone App for Training

Can anyone recommend a good app for training?

I've found the Nike one, but it doesn't seem to give you ascent.

Are there any good ones out there, that might give ascent and which might also be handy for reps?

Suppose I'm essentially looking for a GPS watch, but for free (or as cheap as possible - don't mind paying a bit if it's a really handy app)!

    Thanks.

    That's interesting. Thanks for that.

So it's good for reps etc as well? Not particularly good with these things, but I did reps with a friend once who had a Garmin and it seemed to do the whole session automatically once he'd programmed in how many reps we were donig and how long they were.

Maybe that's the sort of thing you only get with a proper watch?

Either way, Strava will be a step up from the Nike app if it gives ascent.

Not sure about the reps programming. I used to use an app called 'round timer' which you can set to ring or make a sound every so many seconds. I use it down the gym for doing a minute on each exercise. You could run for 60 seconds until it beeps, rest 30 seconds it will beep, runn 60 seconds and so on.

Strava has a feature called segments which I use to track certain sprints but I view them afterwards to see how fast each one was. Hope you find what you are looking for

Great, I'll have a look. Might take me a while to get to grips and no runs of mine will be relevant to runs on there, but don't know if that matters.

A couple of quick questions on Strava etc. Where do people keep their phones when running? I've been putting it in my bumbag, but if you press start on the app and then it takes a minute to put your phone away etc, does that mess up the stats?

    Thanks.
