    Gelanots repair(Kamleika)

    Hi all

Any experience of repairing small tears in Gelanots fabric, as used in the OMM Kamleika 2 smock?

Out running last night, got snagged by a briar, have 3 small holes and a 2x2cm rip in the waist area of my(new!) Kamleika 2 smock

I see there is a generic Goretex kit available, and there's always duct/gaffer tape.

Email in to OMM, not heard back yet.

Anyone experience with D-I-Y repair/ kits please?

Husband bought some goretex repair patches on as he fell and put a hole in over trousers. Seems to have worked well.

No reply from the OMM 'contact us' via their website

Went ahead with a Gore-tex repair patch. Self adhesive, and seems to have stuck well

I used some sellotape on the inside to hold the small tears flat, then put the repair patch on the outside. One of the L-shaped tears I tacked with a small stay suture(cotton) to keep aligned before sellotaping and patching. I will remove the sellotape!
I think I can stand the ?2g extra weight

If it has worked, all well & good. Otherwise google Lancashire Sports Repairs, Athletic Street, Burnley. They can fix just about anything - holes in waterproofs, re-skin down clothing & sleeping bags, repair & resole footwear. Back in the day, the guy who owns the business was a partner with Edmundson and he actually produced the old Edmundson Fell Dancer shoes.

    Hi David

I know this posting is a few years ago but can you remember if you ironed the gortex patches or just stuck them on? I ripped my OMM smock and trousers in a fall and would like to patch them.

    Many thanks, Rachel

I have tried a couple of the McNett products - the tenacious tape sticks tenaciously but very quickly splits where the split in the Gelanots was - so no good. Their Seam repair glue does work but takes a couple of days to dry, and gets everywhere if you are not careful - only use it on a horizontal surface or it will drip down the fabric and into the zip for example - and you need to leave it horizontal for that 2 days whilst it dries. When you try to use what is left in the tube a few months later of course you cannot get the top off.

I'm about to repair my top again. Used a bike puncture repair patch on the inside with seam sealer. Seemed to work for 6 years!

    David,

Once ripped the best option is to bond a patch on using the original fabric or use some seam sealing tape. The gore patches are OK, but to be honest they're a bit obvious. I've been experimenting with fabric repair of late, Gelanots is tricky because it's knitted rather than woven and getting stuff to stick to it can be tricky. Seam tape on the inside seems to work best, but of course the rip is visible from the outside.

If you need a bit of gelanots, just let me know the size and I'll be happy to send you a bit - just send me an SAE and it will be coming back to you fairly sharpish.

    Just seen this sorry.
Self adhesive Goretex repair patches as described above have lasted since then, including the 2015, 2016 and 2017 OMMs and several tough races like the 2015 Edale Skyline. Washed and reproofed several times with Nikwax.
Held up at the weekend in the arctic(!) conditions on Kinder in the Kong MMM. Would use again.
Have also used it to cover the holes I made when I had to cut a hole to re-thread and stitch the attachments for the hem and hood elastics

I used stuff like this and still have some left as I cut it to size: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gore-tex-Fa...x+repair+patch
