fell running...it's a crazy game
Take up something sensible instead...bowls?
I'm quite a novice myself Tommy, plenty of off-road but I've only done a few fell races. You'll love it, so tough but you'll get a real buzz
Oh, don't know that race but if its classified as fell expect tough hills and loads of mud after recent rains. You probably know that already
The James Herriot Race in Wensleydale this weekend is an excellent first fell race. 1000 ft in the first mile and a bit then a glorious level track on the edge of the moor with astonishing views up the dale. There's a bit of short steep climb then a 4 mile bounce back to Bolton Castle.
Doing the James Herriot this weekend as well, didn't realise it had that much climbing in the first mile though
Oops! Yes that wouldn't be a very encouraging first fell race would it? I've just gone back to the memory map and in fact it's about 500 feet in the first mile and a quarter and 1083 feet approx overall. The second climb is from Beldon Beck to Greenhaw Hut which is about 200 feet but seems more. But it's on a jeep track. The rest of the ascent is made up of undulations and steady climbs.
