Hi Mapper were you the guy from Clayton then? Fair play for making the trip...
You came past me on the runnable section after the first climb, then we were in close contact for that gentle ascent, then you were gone never to be seen again!

Yeah that was me. Good to see you Travs.
I was down for the weekend in Knighton with friends. They are not runners so we met in the Ragleigh (??)pub in Little Stretton for a bite to eat afterwards.
Hope you enjoyed the race - I did
See the light in the night
I saw you though haha. MrRTS ran with one of our friends today while myself and his wife climbed the hill with our two border collies, half a lager, bag of crisps, camera and some very loud cheering to you all. You may not have seen me but I bet you heard me. Super running by all :-) It is a pretty tough race that one! P4230160.jpgP4230232.jpg
Yes that'll be me.... By the look of it, struggling somewhere shortly after the first climb?!
Love the photos. If you are on Facebook then have a look at the Shropshire a Fell Running page... There are some more photos there including some great ones of the final descent...
Looking forward to this on Sunday. Tough short race, but hoping to knock 5 mins off last year's time and sneak under an hour.
Another great day out in the Shropshire hills, and despite it looking a bit wet and glum at the start, it was lovely and I was sweltering going up the climbs...
Managed a good start and was 3rd/4th up the first climb, and astonishingly managed to then hold my position for a while. Over the next couple of miles I did slide back to around 10th, but rallied well and got back up to 8th, where I stayed until the end. Although to be honest I was hanging on over the final 10-15 mins and was more, worried about those behind me than catching a couple of guys in front of me...
By far my best ever position, and more important than that my best performance in a race. Managed to knock 12 minutes off last year's time (I had been hoping to knock 5mins off), so was very pleased, but I know there's still improvements and hard work to come. Still lost time on the sharpest descents, although running on the flat tops seemed to be much improved. There's still obviously work to do on my fitness and pace.
We all have people we see in races and compare ourselves against them... today I was hoping to finally finish infront of Mel Price, and we traded places for the first couple of miles, but she's so strong, and where I began to suffer on the final couple of miles, she was so strong and pulled a couple of minutes on me... next time...!
Hello to Mapper (good luck with Pendle Cloughs) and Jtinnion (good luck at the Fellsman)
seems to have been a bit of an anomalous year in that respect. Result archive suggests a healthy input from both men and women under 40s. Most of the Shropshire Summer Series also have junior races (although this isn't in the Summer Series.....).Only 8 under-40's, out of 48 finishers
....it's all downhill from here.
Yes, last year there was a healthy contingent of under 40's. Interestingly though, despite the older age profile this year, and less runners, it looks like a slightly higher standard this year. The time I ran last year to finish 25th wouldn't have got me in the top 30 this year. And if I'd ran today's time last year I'd have been a couple of places higher.
Pretty impressive that the guy who won is under 23, lots of potential for improvement over the coming years...
