I'm very sad to have to report the death of Ken Heaton, member number 3 of the BG Club.
I understand that the funeral will be held tomorrow, 25 June, at Burnley Crematorium at 11.20 am.
RIP Ken.

The only one who can tell you "You can't" is you. And you don't have to listen.
Very sad news Morgan

I'm just about old enough to remember ken and his running. Another early inspiration for me. Rip Ken.
I am amazed at how little attention this has drawn.
The Heaton brothers were icons of the sport, and were very instrumental in raising the early profile and popularity of the BG. Whilst Alan Heaton was the first to break the original time, it could have been either of them, and the record certainly changed hands between the two.
'Understated' is a word so often apt in the fell running world.
Condolences to the Heaton family.

Indeed. As a teenager in the mid '60's I remember reading of their proposed exploits for the upcoming weekend in Harry Griffin's weekly "Lakeland" column in the Thursday edition of the Lancashire Evening Post. As week by week each upped the ante; later to be joined by Eric Beard, Joss and others. They seemed to be a breed apart.
I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!
