You might be lucky to get in the Fred Whitton. From what I understand it filled up on the first day of entries. A few people I know take their and their mates entries round to the organisers house in Millom on the day the entries open to make sure they get in. I hope Im wrong and you do get in though.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unless you posted your entry first class last Monday morning you will not be in the event.
Theres a full list of riders (800) on the website now.

Not that it will make you feel any better but... I'm in.

    Enjoy your cycling.

    Thats good then eh?
Sorry to have had you worried.

I did a mere 80miles yesterday and only over the easiest of the FWC passes (Winlatter). Was well gone by the end - some serious mileage to do methinks or theres gonna be a S(s)truggle at either end of the Fred!

I'm in too. I'm no road rider but I'm hoping to get into the Grand Raid Cristalp mtb race in Switzerland this year so I'm using the Fred Whitton as a bit of early training. I was considering doing it on my mountain bike with slicks on, for the low gearing and the decent brakes, but now I think i'll do it on my cross bike (with slicks on and lowered gearing). What sort of times are you aiming at?

9ish hours would be good, some where in the middle. looking at some of those climbs i think granny gears would be a good idea.

That's the dilemma. Think I'll still end up using the cross bike with a double on it and tough it out. There's no shame in walking on some of those hills!

Well, it's nearly on us! I hope you've been getting plenty of training in on bloody big hills. Here's a tip - if you want to get a good time then tuck in behind Billy Bland, he told me he's going for sub 7!!!!
