The 5m high cross atop Ireland's highest summit, Carrauntoohil, appears to have been cut down by some climber carrying an angle grinder! Most reports seem to overlook the possibility of metal fatigue mind you, the general reports all suggest vandalism.

And now the debate has started. Should it be replaced with a similar cross, or is that appropriate in this day and age?
I never saw as many crosses as in the South of Germany, they all over the place, including on top of loads of mountains.
Cutting down the Cross on top of Tipperary's Devil's Bit would be a bit more of a challenge!

Well done .... having spent a holiday (in 2003) running up and down all of Eire's 3,000 footers, it's a case of it needs a cross to be an Irish mountain.Originally Posted by DrPatrickBarry
