    Dark Peak 4 County Tops

Am thinking of having a go at the Dark Peak 4 County Tops in the next few days but haven't got time to recce anything. Am just looking at the bit between Howden Edge and Black Hill Trig. Am interested in the route that people sometimes take via Dead Edge End to cross the A6024 near Holme Moss and then onto Black Hill summit. I don't khow that ground at all and am interested to know whether there is a path on the ground and if so where it is? Have had a look on Google Earth but inconclusive really. If someone could help I'd love to know:

    a) where do you get onto the path from the Woodhead
    b) does the path go via Dead Edge End Trig. Would be handy to know roughly where it goes. There's a boundary that it might follow after the trig?
    c) any thoughts on whether it's quicker or slower than going to Crowden and over Westend Moss/Tooleyshaw Moss?

    Thanks very much!

    Jules.

    Hi Jules

Its pretty straight forward foll HPM to the cairn where you drop over round hill to lady cross. turn left to path junc then head up to and cross woodhead. go up road approx. 150m towards Dunford bridge gate on left and follow to Wike head and Dead Edge trig.
Important bit nom...follow boundary fence all the way to Holme moss. DO NOT attempt to cut corners it's totally shit and deep tussocks. From Holme moss follow path to Black hill. give me a bell ifyou need Grid refs etc

Good luck. Reckon you could do sub 9 hours mate...

    Hi Ian,

Great - thanks for that. Exactly what I needed! I saw your report on here from when you did it which was helpful too.

    Cheers,

    Jules.
