    Possible Stress fracture

I have localised pain in the metatarsal on my left foot, which has been sore for a week now!!
I limp and can't run. Its not bruised and symptoms of a stress fracture.
Any advice for recovery and how to keep myself fit for next few weeks please

Same happened to me before Xmas. Took about 6 to 8 weeks to heal. An x-ray at the end will show boney growth round where crack was, if it is a stress fracture, nothing to see just now. I was told I could do exercise that didn't hurt (I interpreted that as too much) so for me cycling (turbo) and indoor rower were ok. Started running after about 6 weeks gradually, say a few 400 m reps on a soft grassy field, every other day for a week, then built up from there. You'll know when you are ready to start. Over the course of a few days the pain subsided a lot . I also tried stretching and pointing toes to stop keep the metatarsal region mobile and scar free.

It amazed me how painful a tiny little crack could be! Take it easy, be patient

I had one a few years back. My GP told me not to anything that hurt: walk if it feels OK to walk, run if it feels OK to run. That worked fine, & I was running properly again in 3 or 4 weeks, although I held off the longer stuff for a bit longer. My GP is a running injury specialist as well as a GP, & knows what he's doing.

Saw my physio who did massage and ultra sound treatment. In the space of two days the pain has decreased by 3/4, swelling almost gone, and Im walking loads better. He advised ice massage, and stretching.
