    I like the Asics Gel DS Racer 10 - near as dammit a racing flat & comfy as. As you'd expect, not got a great deal of longevity (I'm phasing into my second pair after six months of hammering them). Usually find them online or in decent indie running shops for £65 or so.

    Just to close this one off for now - gthanks for all the advice and recommendations. I went with what I know in the end and bought some Brooks T7's. The colour scheme packs more lumen's than your average car headlight, but it's an improvement on the one i'd seen which would scare animals!

    Just as light and comfortable as I remembered from earlier versions - great shoe!!
