    Wink New touring/winter frame

So, it seems I have a 105 group set, wheels/tyres, and pedals sat lying around not doing much.

I quite fancy a winter/touring bike. Drop bars, 700c but with good clearance for wide(ish) tyres, discs, rack and guard mounts obviously.

Any reason to look any further than a Surly Disc Trucker?(and a good price at £340 frame set)

I *might* take longer than 48hrs to make a decision.

Should have mentioned the other obvious choice.

I'm hopeful to find everything 2nd hand for this enterprise. And i've got until winter to source everything.

Nothing intrinsically wrong with the Disc Trucker; but Surly seem to take a sledge hammer to crack a nut - real HEAVY duty 4130 cold-drawn Cro-Mo with only the main triangle double-butted - all other tubes are plain gauge.

Have a look at the SOMA DISC SAGA - main triangle is Tange Prestige (heat treated) 4130 Cro-Mo. Forks & rear triangle are Tange Infinity (cold drawn) 4130 Cro-Mo; all tubes are double-butted.

I have been told that Tange Prestige was the only non-Italian tubing that Pinarello ever used when steel was "in fashion" in the peletons.

P.S. The man to contact for Europe is James Toulson at Fine-adc, Broughton Street, Edinburgh.

PPS - This website won't allow me to edit my earlier post -

Salsa was bought out by QBC (Quality Bicycle Components), which is the company that founded Surly.
Hence Surly & Salsa are sister brands. Both use the same tubing and come off the same production lines.

PPPS - Whilst you are on the Soma site, look in their cyclo-cross section at the "Wolverine" - a "monster cross" frame but so much more.
