It certainly was a nice drop of the red stuff - and I only managed once more in the cut after you left me. Mind you, it's a long swim from Furness Vale to New Mills!

Good to see Purple Plodder making an appearance in the Peak. It was only after you'd left the pub that I realised the significance of your forum name. It seems my brain is getting as slow as my legs these days.

Thanks to GVS for another cracking race on a lovely evening.

    19th August 2009

The Eccles Pike Fell Race is run in August. It is reputably one of the oldest fell race in the country, dating back to the beginning of the century. Revived by the Striders it is renowned for being short, tough and demanding.
    2009 Race Details

WED AUG 19. ECCLES PIKE. AS. 7:30pm. 3m/817' from the Navigation Inn, Buxsworth, near Whaley Bridge (GR 821023 on OS Dark Peak Map, ( directions here ).
£3.50 on night only. PM Over 14. Also junior race (as part of main race), 14-16 years.Records 19.26 Andy Wilton 1996; f. 25.12 Sally Newman 1993.
For more information contact the striders by clicking here
The Navigation Inn itself offers a good selection of bar meals and beer, making this an ideal venue for the family to wait whilst you take part in the race.

Mrs Noel should be attending this one. She'll be the one pretending she's not competitive, while refusing to wear the family Fat Boy vest.

For those who haven't done this one before, I can fully recommend it. I'm not so sure about the decision to allow juniors to run the race - my fragile male pride finds it hard to deal with being beaten by 14-year-olds.

They don't get much more local for me. I'll be trotting over for this one.

The links aren't working - you have to go to http://www.goytvalleystriders.org.uk/pages/eccles.html and follow them from there.

    I'll be there :-)

Missed last year due to an injury and was limited to spectating, but looking forward to it tonight, went in the pub after the race and it was full of the scary morris dancers with the black faces, almost put me off me Guiness

Fully agree with Luv Shack's comments about the view from the top - stunning on a cracking evening like tonight, sadly there wasn't much time to enjoy it. Although short, it's a great lttle race with a nice atmosphere alongside the canal. Well done to Lloyd and the Brown Vests.
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results
