    It was Ted Mason that raced in boiler suit and wellies.
    He was the winner of the Great Whernside race last Saturday, which passed through some of his own farmland. At the prizegiving he was announced as "The winner of the race - and the owner of the race - Ted Mason." Can anyone think of another winning competitor in any sport who actually owns the course/arena/venue?

    The Earl of Derby was the first local at Shutlingsloe about ten years ago, and owns the land and the fete venue. But he was some time behind the overall winner Simon Bailey.

    Yes, I remember when Andy Darby was winning races quite frequently. I hadn't realised that he was also a farmer.
