Thanks John. I also spotted this one: http://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visit...-floods-update. That gives you a link to an online OS map with all the footbridges they've checked/closed/not checked yet, marked red for closed, yellow for OK but watch it, green for safe, grey for not checked yet.

Thanks Andy amazing how busy and informative the national park rangers have been, personally I am enjoying the need to get the map out and seek alternative routes rather than just following the well trodden familiar route.

By the way people when visiting the lakes and spending your cash it is worth seeking out the independent traders rather than the national chains because it is the independents that are going to find it hardest to survive after the floods and these smaller businesses will always give you a more personal and knowledgeable service .
