I think an individual should take responsibility for themselves and familiarise themselves with what products are available to them and then make there own decision as to whether they will carry them or not.
That way no body else can be held responsible for somebody else's mis - fortune.

The BMC are not scared to recommend kit for taking with you in Winter ,don't remember flares or trackers being a part of it ...One thing you can't take from an outdoor shop is experience ��

Go back to my first post I said you need to take risks to gain experience, at no point did I suggest you go shopping for it.

At the end of the day my main concern is me and the responsibilities that I have to my family and to that end I like to think that the precautions I take may be of benefit to me should I have the misfortune to need them.
The Kit I carry weighs very little and could even be used should I come across somebody else that needs help.
