Fitness can't be stored. It must be earned over and over, indefinitely.
Any forumites having a bash at this on New Years Day?
I might have accidently been looking at how feasible this one was...
It depends how the night before has gone Alf. I have managed to do it 3 times. The first half of the route is on a steadily climbing road until the tarmac peters out then you follow an obvious path up to the nine standards then back the same way.
If you have time before the start Alf check out the finish. It takes a more direct route back into Kirkby Stephen than the outward leg
Cheers richard, seems we are entering the same races. I may wear my groovy baseball hat.
i know the route well , having done the Yomp 11 times but cheers , i'll recce the end . Must admit i ran it the other day, well struggled up and ran down, that hill by the quarry is a ******* !!!
I'm definately doing it anyway.
I ran this two years ago and still haven't recovered from the endless steep road descent on the way back to Kirkby Stephen. Apart from the road section it's a good hard race.
if I can't see blencathra it's raining

Any forumites there? I'm be there prob wearing my new Chips:Pre race food T shirt. Say hello if yer passing.
Well that was fun. How did you get on ghost?Pleased with time?
The wettest i've run that route. The soup was lovely though.
It certainly was wet - i think i was drier after a post run dip in the Eden. Managed 65minutes - quite pleased considering. I agree the soup was great - didn't see your T shirt though - under a waterproof no doubt.
