GRP is usually a week before UTMB
UT4m is middle of August , maybe 2 weeks before utmb
I have done all 3 so if you want info, comparisons etc just ask

Karen, I am considering the UT4M next year. What is the route like? I don't know the area and want big epic mountains! Also any idea re Grenoble and things for the family to do for a couple of days?

    Many thanks

Route was very mixed. First 5 km thru city was fast and flat but not much else was! Steeply up onto Vercors initially on big tracks then up side of an old ski jump. Lovely on Vercors- mix of grassy paths and some rocky edges. Drop off Vercors initially small rocky path like Lake D then wide tracks. Because you drop all the way to valley more wooded bits than I expected eg climb fro. VIf over to LAffrey. Some open alp pastures near La Morte. Steep drop down to Riperoux but a decent path even in the dark I thought. Very steep up other side , initially in trees and then after Arselle mostly in open also high. Beautiful on tops of ski area near Croix Chamrouse. Small lanes section as you drop down to cross valley to St Nazaire. Up into Chartreuse in woods and then more open like alpine pastures. We had heavy rain and very slippery clay mud on limestone her so they cut out the peak. Last section big tracks to above the Bastille and down into Grenoble. Great organisers. Briefing in French and English interspered. Great closing meal. Free park and tram from out at the University. Very good campsite at Vizille - easy walk to shop, nice pool. Funny little town but bug free park behind the chateau. In Grenoble is a great via feratta. They keep the chair lift up Croix CHamrouse open for supporters all evening and it is free for them. For really big mountains and better views I would do GRP but ut4m was good
