I'm glad you enjoyed it guys.
It was a tough route and very tough conditions so a double whammy.

Rob Hope popped over on his bike. He was gutted he was too ill to run. Feedback has been very positive.

It was a 3 day job, with a team of assistants from BBH setting up Friday, patching up the damaged bits Saturday morning after the wind wreaked havoc Friday night, and then a few finishing off this morning. Then of course the marshalls, not just on course, but car parking, registration and start/finish teams.
Also thanks to some members of other local clubs that mucked in.

Many thanks also to Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue who were kept busy - as far as I know with only minor casualties - they did a great job.

I heard Rob was on top of the hill in ski goggles!

Cracking XC course, a bit disappointed to not take full advantage of it - although I'd like it on record that Ted Mason was well ahead of me at the top of the last climb, and behind me (just) at the finish - not many get to say that!

A summary of some Fell Running names that I recognise (There'll be plenty more knocking about I don't recognise!):

1 43:16 Charlie Hulson Sale Harriers Manchester

    11 45:09 Chris Farrell Horwich
    12 45:12 Steve Hebblethwaite Keswick/Seaton
    14 45:23 Tom Adams Ilkley
    19 45:38 Robert Little Hallamshire/Dark Peak/Sheffield Uni
    28 46:52 Dave Archer Hallamshire/Dark Peak
    37 47:23 Matt Lockyer Pudsey & Bramley
    41 47:35 Joe Mercer Horwich
    48 48:02 Sam Stead Keswick
55 48:26 Adam Osborne Leeds City
63 49:00 Chris Steel Border Harriers & Ac/Borrowdale (is he still Borrowdale?)
    65 49:05 Peter Hodges Hallamshire/Dark Peak
    87 50:21 Nicholas Barber Hallamshire/Pennine

You may well have a dig at this event DT but Witton Park (the park not the forumite) sported a tough course, even for the most seasoned fell runner. There aren't many cross country events where you'll see runners walking the hills…

Your on the wrong forum Wharfee ~ the FRA site is for fellrunners :-).

I (not so sadly) had to miss the XC due to having entered the tougher option of the fell race at Hoofstones :-)

I've done a fair few fell races mapper but this was as tough if not tougher than the majority of them ,those of us who were there will remember the day well for a long time ....no hiding places in xc ...it's tough doing another lap when half the feild have finished .
The organisation was spot on ,no kit checks, chip timing showers ,river for cooling down even had a burger van

I knew there was something missing from the Hoofstones race ~ a burger van! Ah, but we had the Staff of Life pub with some excellent real ales and good food.
I rekon Hoofstones was tougher ~ more climbing, further, knee deep in heather, 400m above sea level, bogs, tussocks, wind, hailstones. Some navigation required too. Nothing that a hardened fell runner can't cope with. I bet if you put half of them XC lads up at Hoofstones on Saturday they would still be up there now ~ crying. :-)
