Not clever & often stupid..
Thanks guys for all your kind thoughts and words.
To be quite honest, as a V65 the 22.5 hour schedule is not that punishing; more of a brisk walk with occasional jogging rather than a run.
By Kirk Fell I was 58 minutes up on the schedule without feeling that I'd had to try.
At Blacksail Pass a strong W wind sprang up and I guess that I started to tire. After Steeple this was accompanied by torrential, horizontal rain and I started to falter, with sore knees and back muscle spasms.
Above and beyond my own efforts, being surrounded by 4 superb shifts of very competent supporters was indeed pivotal to a successful outcome.
The clock recorded 23:39 of elapsed time.
I'd been out of bed for some 38 hours at that point, as at 13.00 on Friday we brought the start forward by 24 hours, to 22.00 Friday in order to miss the hooley that was forecast for all day Sunday.
Ian.
Andrew, no briney, flat coke. Cucumber and Marmite sandwiches washed down with High5 citrus flavoured electrolyte.

I was a bit of an oddball until I was abducted by aliens; but I'm perfectly OK now!
