    Hidden benefits racing

After 30 years of competing in the South Wales area I have engrained knowledge of just about every rock, tussock and bog on multiple routes. This has come into most pleasurable use this year when some close friends and SHMBO announced they wanted to take up hill walking and could I help them? Um...spend more time in my favourite hills? With friends and time to take in the views??. Let me think about that!
Save to say that most of our mid and long race routes make for smashing 1/2 day or full day walks. Parking, pubs and route finding are all a given allowing for the group to focus on the joy of walking. And what a joy it has been. An unexpected bonus and suddenly I dont feel so selfish anymore, taking off into the hills on my own to race. Coolio

They looked spiffing last saturday! I did notice though that the naughty Fechan Orcs had added another false summit to Pen Y Gadair Fawr! Enjoy.

You can make the most of this by appearing to be a massive old sage! Start by being a font of LK/NS, and pontificating about things like changes in weather and how you overcame adversity dispite all the odds being stacked against you.

That has been a significant part of it!
