    Finding routes

    Hi all
I'm looking for new routes for training on but finding it hard to find information on where to go.
I'm based in Whitby North Yorkshire so I'm looking for new routes either in the north York moors, yorkshire dales, penine way or Lake District.
I'm not too concerned about distance and steeper the better.
Ive tried searching for routes but struggle to find hardly any. I'm maybe looking in the wrong places.

Any help would be greatly appeciated.

    Thanks in advance

You can follow the routes of races, assuming that the course is fully open, the Three Peaks for example uses a section that shouldn't be used at other times.

Other than that, get a map and head out, figuring out routes is half the fun. You'll learn what paths and tracks are good and whether they get boggy etc., just blindly following GPX tracks won't help in the long run (sic).

Isn't there a winter league of fell races on the NYM?

Try looking on the Hardmoors website. They have several races around the NYM with route maps from 10k to 200 miles!!

I've downloaded lots of gpx files from here. Loads of good hiking routes to run on.

Best bet from Whitby is the Cleveland Way north to Sandsend or better still south to Robin Hoods Bay. Esk Valley Fell Club still put on quite a few races. The next one, Glaisdale Rigg, is next weekend. Here's a link to the race routes and the club web-site:

Yep agree with that learn to use a map and compass and then all the routes in the world are at your feet, never mind Yorkshire.
    Have fun
