    Elligibility

So with just 11 days to go before the first champs race there are 169 juniors registered to take take part in this years U13 -19 champs under the new elligibility rule.
Last year 387 kids took part across the champs in the equivalent age groups.
Well done. Whoever pushed this ridiculous rule through has certainly made junior fell running a more inclusive sport thats open to everyone with the minimum of fuss.

Are you comparing like with like Al? The 387 last year were across the age groups and not at race 1.

The rule has been in place for sometime to be fair, just not enforced.

Now that the grant support has been cut, expect that UKA/EA will be looking for new revenue streams :/

Whats all this nonsense about results/age group tables not being displayed until the FRA committee have scrutinised them.

Results are on the Esk Valley web-site now. I presumed the delay was just waiting for them to be typed up. 2 days is pretty good compared to usual!!

    Mike,
That is not the problem CCR is referring to; I received the results within 36 hours, which is more than satisfactory and completes a successful event at a fantastic new venue for the junior championships.
However, I am not able to process the race results as the FRA committee have yet to agree the practical implications of the eligibility rules. They then wish to scrutinise the championship points tables before publication.
Going downhill fast - until I fell over

Delay not helped by the fact the chairman and person responsible for wanting to scrutinise tables etc has been away skiing.
Dont worry about the poor juniors who desperately want to see what they need to do in the next race.

another facebook discussion closed down by admin. 2 in fact.

They were both being conducted civilly.
They were both highlighting concerns, difficulties and misunderstandings and they were also a useful way for people to better understand the issues involved.

Why is there an instinctive wish to close down a debate, even when it is being conducted in a proper way?

With respect Richard and I know you mean well but you are not aware of the specific issues involved. Please be assured that a number of people are working very hard to help our junior members who have some technical issues which we are trying to resolve. The Chair of the EA eligibility group has had a family bereavement and is not contactable at the moment.

Hopefully it will all be sorted out soon but please be patient in the meantime, especially with the folk who are working hard to organise and administer the series of junior championship races.

Great to see so many youngsters out there enjoying their fell running.

    Have fun 😀

It's not even an 'official' FRA Facebook page so this does seem a little officious, the debate may have been a little insensitive but this would seem to be down to a lack of information / missunderstanding.

with respect Charmian, your point is only indirectly related and could have been made on the facebook thread without closing both threads if you felt it was relevant.

The thread had wider implications as you could see some involved in our sport are of the opinion that rules are guidelines.
Some feel that the link to EA and the need for affiliation is wrong.

If the fell running community cannot discuss such matters something is wrong.
