    Itinerary sugges for Skye

Hoping to head up to Skye late May/early June for the best part of a week, finishing in Fort Bill for the downhill MTB World Cup.

I've only been to Skye once, to do the Cuillin Ridge, so wondered if I could subscribe to the knowledge of the forum to help me plan the best itinerary for 3-5 days on the isle. My wife hasn't been before so i'm keen to make sure she enjoys it, but we'll have 2 very young noise wombles with us, so rolling around the distillery (or the Cuillin Ridge again) won't be an option. Thinking mostly of pleasant walks and the sights we need to see. Possibly will also have use of a bike trailer for the wombles, but would need to be gentle stuff as it would be their first time in it.

What's worth the trip, and what's overrated?

Fairy Pools? Old Man of Storr? Dunvegan? Quiraing?

Thinking of maybe stopping in Glencoe on the way to break the trip up for the kids, been there loads of times, but is there anywhere else I should stopover instead?

    Travelling from Yorkshire.

Quiraing (Trotternish)is stunning and other worldly. We spent a wet day there when other options were limited. Can thoroughly recommend. You might want to check up on the ease of access for the young un's. Its the sort of place you can either just look at or, better still, do some easy scrambling between the pinnacles. Very photogenic and Tolkienesque!

The view of the Cuillin from Elgol is well worth the visit.

Are you not tempted to go for the ridge record for twins under one year in age?

Bike on Skye? With trailer? I once had four days on Skye. On one day the wind was so strong that it was physically impossible to ride my bike (and I was a lot stronger then than now). And for the entire four days, the cloud base never lifted above about 500 feet. And this was in late May, same time of year that you are going.

Curiously, for the three days that I spent on Raasay the weather was wonderful. So I know what the Cuillins, Storr, etc look like in the distant view from Raasay, but have no idea what they look like close up (apart from in other people's photos).

Trotternish ridge is great for running, nice grassy slopes on one side, that aren't really too steep, whilst on the other side you have the spectacular corries. On a good day the views over the mainland are spectacular.

The best time to visit the Quirang is in misty weather. Much more atmospheric.

There was a major access battle when I tried to visit Neist point about 10 years ago - did that get resolved?

We stayed at The Beach House at Camastianavaig a couple of years back which is at the base of Ben Tianavaig. Had a few stunning runs up there. one of the footpaths up goes right to the edge of the cliff & is not for the faint hearted! https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/skye/bentianavaig.shtml
The best pizza on Skye, hands down: http://www.cafesia.co.uk/
And the best coffee shop (featured on Grand Designs?): http://www.whatsonskye.com/gallery/single-track-cafe/

We found the Old Man Of Storr worth it, but heaving. We went in August & had to wear down jackets & gloves, it was freezing!
We all loved Skye though & had a great holiday!

P.S: The Fairy Glen & Dunvegan Castle are well worth a trip too!
