    waterproof but not taped

    Are these trousers: http://www.berghaus.com/mens-deluge-...rs/432907.html

waterproof enough to pass a kit check even though not taped?

Someone is asking on the OMM competitor Facebook page.

They are sold as waterproof with a 10,000mm head, but I notice the FRA rules specify 'with taped seams'

Personally I would check with the organisation who is hosting the event.

I'd be pretty confident that they would pass a check, but perhaps they should print out the manufacturers literature that states that it is waterproof, just in case.

Don't a lot of races say "sold as waterproof, or taped seams".....?

I know that for the Marsden-Edale Trigger, probably the most stringent of all kit-checks, and I have previously taken my Paramo trousers, which have no taped seams, but are without a doubt more resilient to water/wind/cold than just about anything else available.

What about taped seams, but not waterproof? And those Buff branded fleece hats? Can you cut a hole in them for your head to go through, and use them as a neck gaiter?

Unless they were made of an innovative fabric like Paramo's (and that is another debate!!) then you can virtually guarantee they would have taped seams to be classed as waterproof. A quick bit of Googling confirms that these Aquafoil trousers do:

they do have taped seams. you can tell by just looking at the picture. if you look at the stitching you can feel and see that there is taping behind it, you probably can't "see it" as they are lined.
