What. Punctu-ation,
Fear Not! As one who has read Henry James I appreciate the vitality - nay, necessity - of a well punctuated piece and; as I often say, why use a humble , where a ; conveys just that subtle hint of a longer pause: however, having written that, one must be wary that a plethora of over-punctilious punctuation might be perceived as ... perhaps pastiche? Perish the thought!

Do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites representing absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college
Kurt Vonnegut
....it's all downhill from here.
I think he kind of made the point there"Only I was going to kindergarten; Frank was going to junior high; and Father was going to work on the atom bomb."
....it's all downhill from here.
My view is:
- he was joking in the original quote
- he, like many writers, liked hyperbole. It attracts attention
- he believed "rules" were made to be broken and so he did, even his own. But writers can
- he didn't know how to use semicolons and used them like commas. But then, so what?
And finally; I didn't like his writing much anyway when I was reading him (and I have been to Dresden).
