    Zipwire Across Thirlmere?

I hope it's acceptable to post this here: Please review the petition below and sign if you feel able to support it. It's very important that the proposed zipwire across Thirlmere is stopped dead in its tracks, it will be nothing short of a travesty if it goes ahead and would leave a terrible scar on a beautiful and very serene landscape. Thank you :-)

    I don't doubt it, I'd like a go myself.

Not across Thirlmere though, thank you very much. It's a National Park and a place of outstanding beauty, that Western side of Thirlmere is very special and not the right place for this.

First Hercules through the valley at 50' will probably take care of it.

Could it potentially assist in breaking of old county tops record?

Where would you suggest in the lakes then?
Roads, heights and sights all to be considered.

It's a tough one Martyn but when money is involved rational thinking goes out of the window.
    Gain is their only thought.

Where as we look at the bigger picture for the good of both sides.

I don't like the idea of it but nor would I have liked the flooding of a beautiful lakeland valley to make Manchester's water supply.

To be fair it's a matter of balance. The Honister zip wire was thrown out and rightly so. However the likes of Go Ape etc. certainly contribute to the local economy and I have taken the family on the one at Whinlatter without any qualms.
The lakes and now dales is a huge expanse and I would hope there is room for future enterprise as long as it is sympathetic and not detrimental to the environment. Anyway turn the clocks back a few years and large tracts of fellside would have been alive to the sound of heavy industry.

So the chairman of the Lake district foundation resigns on the day of their launch due to their apparent lack of opposition to the zip wire.
Make what you will of that but the one thing I have a big problem with is all the positive posturing eminating from Cumbria tourism when one if their directors is also involved in running tree top trek.
