    Alabama rot

Nothing to do with smelly fell shoes but something you need to be aware of if you are a dog owner.
Most obvious symptoms are lesions on the paws or belly. This can cause potentially fatal kidney problems for dogs and the cause has not yet been identified. Seems to prevalent in muddy wooded areas with a marked increase in the winter months. Needless to say, Mungo now has a shower after every run I take him on (much to his delight!)

Yes - thankfully only a handful of cases near me as yet (Malverns, Cannock Chase) but it has made me think twice about where and when I walk/run with the dog. There are only so many showers a week I can give him!
