    So: steep but runnable orienteering terrain, just like in many parts of Britain. Except that orienteers would regard a 16km course in that terrain as rather long; how long is the Barkley, again?

    An Englishman was the first person ever to complete the Barkley proper... (100 miler and not the fun run 60 miler). He trained mainly in the Lakes.
