    Alderman's ascent 2018

    Plans are now well under way for the 3rd Alderman's Ascent over in Saddleworth on Thursday evening July 5th.

    This is a fundraising event for the junior teams of Saddleworth Rangers Rugby league club. All the young rugby players will be getting sponsors to raise as much funds as possible.

    All junior races will start from Binn Green Car Park on the A635 Holmfirth Rd from 6.30 onwards. We had a great turnout from numerous local Running clubs which swelled the junior numbers to 99 runners. Lets hope for an even bigger turnout this year with Holmfirth Juniors using the race as part of their race series.
    The senior race will start at 7.30 from Churchill Playing fields before the steep climb onto the moor. We had just short of 70 senior runners last year and we are keen to make the magic 100+ number.

    So with less than 2 weeks to go, the 3rd Alderman's Ascent will soon be upon us.
    Please come along to this great race. Your entry fee goes towards the fundraising of the Under 15's Rugby squad's tour abroad next year.

    They spend all year on the run up to the event raising funds for the occasion.

    It will be a great night and it only cost a fiver! Free soup available and there will also be a BBQ back at the clubhouse.

    Anyone heading over to Saddleworth tomorrow evening for the Alderman's Ascent Fell race can be assured that the race is still on. The recent fires have not affected the race route and the Landowner is happy for the race to go ahead as long as spectators/parents do not go onto the moor with cigarettes or discard glass bottles.

    If you are going to the Junior races, please note that Binn Green car park is mainly shut due to waterworks going on. There will be parking along the road and layby's but please be aware that this is a fast road so please be very carefull crossing the road. I will have signs up to try and make drivers aware. If possible, please car share or arrange to leave a car at the clubhouse carpark and cadge a lift to the start.
    Registration for the Juniors starts at 5.30pm at Binn Green and the race starts times are as followed......
    Under 17's - 6.30pm
    Under 9's & 11's - 6.40pm
    Under 15's - 6.50pm
    Under 13's - 7.00pm
    After the Junior Races, please come back to the clubhouse where we will have free hotdogs and soup, the bar will be open and there will also be a BBQ

    Senior Race Registration opens at the club house from 6pm with a race start at 7.30pm. Please note that its a 10min walk to the start from the clubhouse. Parking is at the clubhouse and there is also on street parking if need be. Presentation will be asap after the race and hopefully we will have provided enough food at the BBQ for the seniors (last year, we ran out!!)

    I hope we have a great turn out for this fundraising event and that everyone enjoys it!

    Thanks to everyone who turned up on Thursday evening and made the evening a success. A special thanks to Northaram Puma's and Holmfirth Harriers who had the race in their Junior/ Senior Grand Prix. I hope to see you all again next year.
