Chatted to an older woman in a wheelchair at a canoe slalom event last weekend. Watched Question of Sport last night and the mystery guest was the same person, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson. Multi Olympics medalist. Afraid I had never heard of her, very nice lady.

I saw DTGT a few years ago at Amsterdam airport. It was the Friday before the Hobble. No-one seemed to know who she was but I caught her eye and smiled. She went zooming off very quickly a short while afterwards

    Older woman? She's 49, Pat!

On the same sort of topic, though, I stood behind Dame Sarah Storey in the checkout queue at Whaley Bridge Tesco a few months ago.

If you'd gone to the coop it would have been Edwina Curry!

Ya, I saw that when I looked her up on wikipedia. Badly worded what I meant was not a current competitor.

She was in a racing chair, as she had just got back from a session around the regatta lake, and I went up to her to have a chat about it. Then spoke to her again later on in the car park. She has a very fancy van.

She was telling me the wheelchair marathon record is 1:20, could not believe it was that fast.
    She is right.

Absolutely. As Chris Lee will tell you, we were at a Pennine member's party in Whitehough (Chinley) a few years ago, and Edwina was there. I wanted to ask her about eggs, but I'd probably had too much to drink and my brain was scrambled!
