    Fell Running Pubs?

What are the most distinguished Fell-runners pubs then? Are there any legendary, or well known pubs in Fell Running history?

    Scafell in Rosthwaite?
    Old Dungeon Ghyll, Langdale
Golden Rule, Ambleside (probably my fave).
Oddfellows in Keswick, opposite the Moot Hall?
    Llanberis? The Heights?
    Yorkshire? Haworth? Horton?
    What about the Peaks? Shropshire?

Well the Scafell certainly has a lot to answer for as does, in part the ODG. As a climbing/walking teenager in the 1970s, I remember looking at the board above the fire (as it then was) and thinking these were superhuman endeavours. I had a love of the fells from an early age and was not bad at XC, but to run amongst such formidable terrain was sadly out of my reach or so I thought. This was something to aspire to....
A few years later and on a walking holiday, I donned a pair of trainers (probably not much more than Dunlop green flash! ) and headed off from Seatoller. I ran to Sty Head tarn and back via Stockley Bridge. I felt a huge sense of achievement and although I did not enter any races, my next few hols in the Lakes were interspersed with the odd fell run.
Sadly, running passed me by for a good few years but by 2014, I stood on the start line of the Borrowdale Fell race. My name was not going to appear on that board in the Scafell , but it felt like I had come full circle. Not many of us achieve our dreams but, apart from a seriously crap race time, I think will remember that day more than any other race.
I was in the Scafell again a few weeks ago. That board still inspires admiration amongst the customers (but I do wish they would update it!) A young lad, under 10 and fresh from a day on fells on table next to me was enquiring about what it entails. Dad tried to explain but didn't really understand. I helped out and I saw a spark of aspiration in his eyes. Perhaps another fell runner in the making?

How about The Cow & Calf, slap bang on Ilkley Moors? Nothing finer than a post run pint & looking down Wharfedale.
