I have just realised that it was Chris Davies who won the very high-profile by-election in Littleborough and Saddleworth in 1995. I remember that I went to the Turnslack fell race in 1995, and as I got off the train at Littleborough a microphone was thrust at my face with a reporter asking me about my voting intentions.
