    Padfield Plum Fair Scamper

1.15 pm Sunday Sept 9th .Good little low key race on the edge of the Peak District; obvious attractions of the local festivities also including the Famous Redgate Coal Race later in the day The race used to start up the Longdendale Trail (as per Gravy 6) but a new route is planned for this year. Has anyone any details of the changes?

    Padfield Plum Fair Scamper

I've not done this one before. Do any forumites know what it's like?

Also, does anyone have experience of the plum-related fete? Is it likely to entertain young ones and old ones?

    Cheers

Excellent. Do the fell race, then the coal race.

    OK, cheers. I'll be there.

Is that running with a sack of coal? I think I might give that one a miss. How far is it (the coal race, not the fell race)?

The coal race is only about 150m. Up a steep road, with a sack of coal on your shoulder! Plenty for the kids. A good do as long as its not too rainy. You could do the tractor pull too!

The race goes from the village, across fields up onto moors, a loop of a couple of fells and back across fields to the village. Very low key and enjoyable.

The coal race looks serious. I saw two lads training on Redgate the other night!

Nice race, no steep climbs but up and down, Chris Birchall (Leeds City AC) won, Sally Newman 1st female. Exalted company indeed! Some great cake stalls and the desperate dan-sized plum pie and cream was fantastic!

Yes, a great day out. Very runnable race, which was an effort throughout. Fleeter, you're getting better than when I last raced against you a few years ago.

Mrs Noel also enjoyed it despite walking for "about five minutes".

I was particularly amused by the human fruit machine, as was my daughter who got three oranges, so won a lolipop.

Shame I missed the coal race, but we needed to get back for tea.

As always, thanks to organisers, marshalls etc.

Great local race, equalled by the amount of entertainment back at the recreational ground for my good lady and little girl.

Really good course as the gradient of the ascent was runnable all the way but also long enough so as you wanted it to end far sooner than it did.

Top marks to the organisers and marshalls (there seemed to be one every 200yds on the descent).

    Will be back next year.
