Do I need to be a member?

    Hiya

New to fell running me, do I need to be a member of the FRA or a member club to race? What are the benefits & how can I contribute? I see in the callendar on the FRA website that many races offer entry on the line. Will I get laughed at if I just turn up without affiliation?

    Thanks in advance

The race does not always go to the swift, but to the ones who keep running

No. If you do join the FRA (a bargain at £12 per annum) you will get a printed race calendar and the excellent magazine 3 times a year.

I'm proud to say that our sport the least officious you could possibly want. There are more affiliation rules in tiddlywinks. We welcome anyone who turns up on the line and wants to give it a go. You don't have to be a member of anything, but joining the FRA (which costs less than some road races) gives you a great magazine and I promise you'll spend many happy hours around Christmas planning your next year's sport around the race calendar which you get too.

    Good luck with your racing.

    Sorry XC jogger.
You will be fine. Just turn up and enter "unattached".
You will probably soon feel you would like to join the FRA.

Thanks for the thoughts and adivice. 'Least unofficious sport' sounds great! I have become a bit tired of the sleeve measurers in cycling the last couple of seasons (yes, your jersey sleeve must be a minimum length to compete in road time trials).

At £12 it seems the least I can do to contibute to a sport I hope to get some fun out of . . . if I join now though, will I have to pay again in January? Anyway, time to plan that first race . . .

No. If you join after 1st October your membership is until the end of 2008. There's a link to the application form at the bottom of this page.
