    Just make sure you wait until after 1st October. I joined in September and had to pay again in January. No exceptions despite the fact that the website said that it was "a good time to join!"

    The only thing to watch out for is some races will require you to carry safety kit - i.e. waterproofs. This doesn't normally apply to smaller events/shorter races, but an organiser can always insist on minimal kit, so you should always come prepared.

    Thanks - sent it Monday - hopefully the September date i wrote the cheque won't come back to haunt me!

    I am thinking to do 'the screes' race on Oct 20th out of Nether Wasdale as a first effort, short but an iffy time of year weatherwise. Surely a full OS map is overkill though? Anyone got a route description by the way?
