    Flu Jab

    Hi All,

Im booked in for a flu jab on Monday, I have heard these things give you a slight dose of flu in order to build up your immune system to prevent flu.

Is this gonna put me on my back side for a few days?
Should I be trying to train or just have a few days off?
Should I avoid the thing altogether?

    Any advice would be great.

    Cheers
    Jamie

    Re: Flu Jab

I've had 'the jab' for several years now, don't think I've had any ill effects from it. Some complain of sore arms, feeling rough etc. but may be psychosematic (how's the spelling there?) as they all wind each other up. I probably wouldn't train that day, that's about all.

Having had flu (proper flu , not pretend flu) twice in 3 years, I ain't going through that again - I'll suffer the jab any day thanks in preference to the real thing.

Are you saying the jab didn't work then, Moley?

No, my bad grammar. Had the flu twice some years back, following that I had the jab every year (for about 7 years now). No problems with flu since. Still get coughs & colds but nothing like as bad as being off with the real thing - that is no joke.

Jamie, do you need the flu jab, are you one of the identified risk categories. I work with the vulnerable catergory but never suffered from anything other than a cold. Don't forget the flu jab only protects you from a limited strain of flu, rather than the whole spectrum.

By the way, don't rely on what I say, or hold be responsible.......... works for me.

    With regards

    Gaz

    Re: Flu Jab

    Hi Gaz,

I had a really bad bout of asthma last year, it pretty much grounded me on and off for most of the winter. Not sure what brought it on but I suspect it was not getting rid of a chest infection or something. Im now on permanent inhalers, I have been fine for about 8 months. The asthma nurse who was dealing with me at the time reccommended that I get a flu jab around this time of year.

    Cheers
    Jamie

    Re: Flu Jab

As a 'retired gentleman' I've been having the flu jab every year and never suffered any ill effects from it. However, this year I had a Pneumonia jab on the same day as the flu jab. My shoulders were a bit achy for twenty four hours or so, but I was out running again next day.
Having suffered the horrors and misery of real flu on a couple of occasions during my working life I'm usually one of the first in the queue for the preventative flu jab now.
