would you say these are a 'proper' fell shoe?
would you say these are a 'proper' fell shoe?
Reckon so! I use the 290 ' s (same sole unit but a little heavier) most of year around on moors around Rochdale, Todmorden etc, and generally anywhere.
Do OK unless really muddythe mudclaw's come out!
Gaz
I had a pair of Mudroc 290s.
I found them OK in dry conditions, but the rubber is a much harder compound than than the Mudclaw or a Walsh. Consequently, they are absolutely lethal on wet rock, as my coccyx can testify!!
is this good or bad?
Softer the sole the better the grip, but they'll wear out quicker, particularly if you wear them on runs / races where there are lengthy sections of road, or stoney ground.
Must get myself another pair of 290's sometime....
Don't take my word for that. I would check it with Inov8.
Incidentally, Walsh Raids offer pretty good grip on wet rock. My pair clocked their 600th mile this morning and apart from one small repair to the stitching they are holding together very well. They are beginning to feel a little sloppy when they get wet and the soles are wearing down which made one slippy grassy descent fun this morning but I'll still get a good few more miles out of them if I reserve them for drier conditions.
The links comfirm that a softer compound is used on the 280 so grip should be better but will not last as long. Just balance it out what you need them for. Are they a training or racing shoe.
