    Garmin 305 error

I am trying to transfer today's run from my 305 to the Garmin Training Centre on my PC.
    I keep getting the message:
"There was a problem while communicating with your device.
Please make sure it is connected to the computer, then try again."
As far as I can tell it is connected properly!
    Not had this problem before.
    Any help gratefully received.

It'll work eventually - maybe after a reboot or two, though.

In the meantime, get a copy of sportstracks and download your garmin into it. It is much better software although you can't upload to the virtual training partner. There should be other threads with the sportstracks link.

    Thanks.
I have got Sport Tracks and have now loaded today's run in.
But still won't go into Garmin Training Centre.

My 205 does the same then a day or two later it loads everything missing from the Training Centre records all at once. I can't make sense of it so gave up trying.

It is also worth looking at exporting the gpx file from sportstracks and uploading to 'mapmyrun' and, if you want, from there to Google Earth for a 3D view of where you have been.

If you get version 2 of Sporttracks you can launch Google Earth directly. Well I think you can, my laptop doesn't like Google Earth!

Are the contacts on the back all tarnished? TC seems more sensitive to that for some reason. A pencil eraser apparently cleans them ok.

Had the same problem. Spoke to Garmin who recommended loading the latest update. Problem solved.

Still got the problem transferring from Garmin to the Training Centre but no trouble transferring to Sport Tracks. But as far as I can see Sport Tracks doesn't do graphs of elevation, pace etc.
Tried to download updates but it doesn't like that either.

On SportTracks screen the section "Summary" has a drop list on a button on the right - the list includes splits / pace / elevation and each section has a variety of graphs.

Try putting into a different usb port. It seems to work like that for me.
I keep hearing that Sportstracks is better than GTC but I don't see why. GTC loads automatically which is a bonus and does everything I want it to.

I do see elevation on the 305 as being a bit suspect. A 5 mile canal run regularly shows me 600' of ascent.
