I keep hearing that Sportstracks is better than GTC but I don't see why. GTC loads automatically which is a bonus and does everything I want it to.

I do see elevation on the 305 as being a bit suspect. A 5 mile canal run regularly shows me 600' of ascent.

Sportstracks elevation measurements are less fanciful than garmin's.

    The route maps are better

Individual gpx files can be exported to upload into memory map

Individual routes can be exported to Google Earth or MapMyRun

Sessions can be grouped by Location so that you can see all times (sorted from best to worst for instance) for a particular Location or route, Category, Day, Time of Day, Week, Month, Year.

Training Diary can begin on any day of the week so that you get daily, weekly and monthly totals on the summary.

You can record weather conditions, equipment (shoes, perhaps) plus other notes

Not only is SportTracks infinitely better than TC (don't know how Garmin get away with it sometimes) but you can also now use the elevation correction plugin with ST. (And lots of others)

The plugin automatically corrects the GPS elevation using SRTM elevation data (from the official NASAs FTP server). SRTM is freely available, covers most of the Earth between 56° S to 60° N, and is usually fairly good, The UK resolution is about 3 arc seconds. But comparing the routes I've exported into Memory Map, it seems almost spot on with OS heights.

You can download the plugin and instructions from the sporttracks forum

Is that because you pass quite a few locks ?

But if you raise your arm several inches in each stride it all adds up
