I would be very happy to answer any questions you might have.

There does seem to be some concern on this thread regarding the cost of entering the event. I genuinely know where those expressing such concerns are coming from because when you compare the cost of doing the British Ultra against (say) the KIMM/OMM for about £80/pr or a local fell race for £1 then there is no contest. Having done my fair share of KIMMS and a handful of local fell runs I speak with a little knowledge.

However, as the organiser of this event I know we wont get 3000 entrants over which to spread the cost of running it, nor with it being a multi day stage race can it be organised on a shoe string like a local fell run which typically might only require a small handful of people for a few hours to put on.

If your assupmtion is that the British Ultra is Commercialism based, you couldnt be further from the truth. Neither I or my fellow race director can afford to loss money, but neither are we looking to get rich off the proceeds. We have both competed in numerous ultra races around the World and frankly love the sport. If I was money driven, I would have remianed in my former job as a partner in a firm of Chartered Surveyor rather than pursue my current job as a race organiser and creator of Likeys.

The other race I organise is the 6633 Ultra in the Canadian Arctic- www.6633ultra.com . Last year was the first running of the event and I personally lost £6000 putting the race on. This March will be the second running of the event and again I anticiapte making a lose of perhaps £3-4,000. I hope that in time the event will attract enough interest in order for it to break even (no more - no less).

I absolutely love putting these races on and I can absolutely guarantee you, there aint no money in it.

Somewhere on a forum, dont know which one as I contribute to a few, it is on record that should the British Ultra start making significant money, it will reflected in future years with lower entry fees. But with this being the first year of the event we had to pitch an entry price somewhere bearing in mind the hopeful entries balanced against the overheads (which are simply enormous due to the location and period over which the event takes place).

So far we have had a fantastic response with far more entries at this stage than I could ever have wished, so fingers crossed it will be a success. So please give us a chance - we are genuine runners who genuinely love ultra running and are genuinely trying to do something for our sport. We are not faceless business men trying to rip people off.

I dont come on this forum very often, but will try to do so more often to address any queries you might have. I am also very happy to answer any questiond you might have on the phone. My telephone number is 01874 711850.....Ask to speak to Martin
