    Fantasy Fellrunning

    Is anyone interested in a little game of armchair fellrunning, ideally suited for crocked or otherwise idle runners?

    Last year I set this up on the CVFR forum, and wondered whether you folks would be interested for 2008.

    The way it works is this...

    You're in the Shoulder of Mutton surrounded by fellow runners. You've just remembered that you've got to put together a team of four runners for the 2008 championship races. At least one of the four runners has to be a man and at least one has to be a woman.

    You turn out your pockets and you've got enough cash for 13 pints of Black Sheep, with which to bribe your way to a team. Some runners take several pints before they can be persuaded to join your team, others are yours for a single swift pint.

    From the date that you select them, your runners score points at every race in the English or British championships:
    1 point just for finishing the race;
    20 points for the 1st man, down to 1 point for the 20th man;
    20 points for the 1st lady, down to 1 point for the 20th lady;
    8 points for the 1st male vet, down to 1 point for the 8th male vet;
    8 points for the 1st lady vet, down to 1 point for the 8th lady vet;

    Points are cumulative. So, for instance, a vet finishing amongst the top 20 seniors will get combined points for being in the top 20 and in the top 8 vets, plus one point for finishing the race.

    In addition, your runners will score points at the Lakeland Classics that aren't otherwise in the English championships, and also (because I make the rules!) the three Midsummer Madness races in June.

    These Lakeland Classic and Midsummer Madness races don't score as many points, though:
    1 point just for finishing the race;
    10 points for the 1st man, down to 1 point for the 10th man;
    10 points for the 1st lady, down to 1 point for the 10th lady;
    4 points for the 1st male vet, down to 1 point for the 4th male vet;
    4 points for the 1st lady vet, down to 1 point for the 4th lady vet;

    During the year you can change two runners - either swap 2 of your runners for another pair who cost the same total number of pints, or on two different occasions swap one of your runners for another one of the same pintage.

    Post your team of four to this thread, with a team name, before the first championship race.

    I'll keep the scores and post a league table after every race in the series.

    At the end of the season the team with the most points wins.

    My next posts will list the runners in the pub and how many pints they'll cost you.

    Re: Fantasy Fellrunning

    Interesting idea. You could even impose Fantasy Handicapping by forcing the runners to drink the specified quantity of ale before each race. That'd even matters out a bit.

    Just off to do some research and run my options through a supercomputer.

    Is your husband going to be doing championship races next year?

    Roadrunner's price is also based on him not doing too many championship races. If he had a tilt at the championship then he would definitely be a bargain!

    Tell you what, Dom - you can back yourself for a pint !!
    Same goes for Chris - so pay a pint for him JJ, and build a team around him. If he does those races next year, he'd be good value.
