Great book with lots of cracking mountain pics in. Prob about 16 years old now but still one of my faves. This book + one of his subsequent talks pushed me into getting myself over there.

There's a kind of runner's bible I use called The Lore of Running by Tim Noakes which is worth getting. It has sections on every aspect of running you could think of (although sadly not a lot on fell running per se, I have to admit).

If all my books went up in smoke it's one I'd re-buy.

Running High is also very good and all the Wainwright Pictorial Guides (but only if you know the Lakes).

Nothing to do with fell running........................but, two superb books on cycling:

    Matt Rendell - "The death of Marco Pantani" - superb;

Richard Moore - "In search of Robert Millar" - facinating read!

Won't mean owt to you if you dont follow cycling mind you.........

Here are four that inspired me
Running in Three Continents by Arthur Newton (ultra runner extraordinary)
The Lonely Breed by Ron Clarke & Norman Harris
Testament of a Runner by WR Loader (excellent book on the rationale of distance running)
Zatopek - The Marathon Victor by Frantisek Kozik (biography of Zatopek, only man to do Olympic Triple in the same games(5000m, 10000m and Marathon)

Try Extreme Running by Dave Horsley

Check the list of ultra-distance running books and off-road running books at the foot of the Amazon page.

Dean Karnazes - Ultramarathon man. Easy to read and a good story
Cudahy's Wild trails is one book I keep re-reading
"The Round" - a 60th anniversary pamphlet (1992) I am rereading for the 10+th time. [BGR!]
Noakes Lore of Running - heavy going at times but fascinating.
Hal Higdon - Marathon and "running for speed" - he has an easy style.
Lance Armstrong's books are surprisingly well written
    Wainwright. The finest fell books.

And the favourite: the Broons annual.

[I have to admit to asking for the latest Pratchett novel from Santa, as well]
