    January Sales

As chrimbo will soon be over and the sales will start, i will be looking for a suitable shoe for training and racing over longer distances i.e. 3 peaks, welsh 1000 meters, lakeland's etc etc

sssoooooo come on forumites lets have some good suggestions as to what you have used for similar events Inov8, Montrail, Salomon, Mizuno etc and their good/bad points

and would like to wish you all a proper chrimbo

This is the best price I have seen for Inov8 290's. I need some new shoes and it's either these or the Gladiator from Running Bear. Be interesting to see if there are any further reductions after Xmas.

I love my Mizuno Wave Harriers. After initial teething troubles (sorted by playing with the lacing) they've been fantastic for all sorts of runs including completely injury and blister-free Tanky's Trog and more recently a 45mile trail loop around the outside of Bristol. Cushioning was able to cope with road/hard-packed sections.

Depends on your feet and biomechanics. I've narrow heels and wide forefoot with a tendency to pronate and weigh about 11.5 stone.

I've found the grip on rock ok but found that very steep grassy descents can find you wishing for a bit more grip.

Toebox on Highlanders too narrow for me.

Inov8 Roclites are moody buggers- sometimes savage my heels sometimes not
First run then beer. If no run then proceed directly to beer.

I love the Wave Harrier too - it's become my first choice for longer races which aren't pure, steep fell. They're great for 20+ milers that have trail or hard packed sections, as they're more cushioned than an out-and-out studded fell shoe. They suit a widish forefoot. The grip is surprisingly good in moderate mud, though I've skated around on wet cobbles; the new version, which I haven't tried yet, is supposed to feature a stickier rubber outsole, which should improve this. I'm definitely getting another pair this year.

Ta Tussockface, that sounds likes a recommendation - I'll see if I can lay my hands on a pair.

these are good shoes but i wouldnt say the grip is outstanding mind
mine are well bedded in now and the first thing i noticed was they have a wider fit than any other trail type shoes ive ever had.
quite comfy but i would never race in them
