    2008 Junior Do

    Hi

I have been asked to get organising the Junior Do for this year. I know it is only 2nd January, but apparently booking a venue can be difficult.

I have never been to a Junior Do, and don't really know what is expected at one. I also haven't met many people who have been to one.

What I would like to know is

-what did people like about last year's do?
-how it could be made better?

    Thanks

    Lecky

    Hi Lecky,

I am a parent. Last year was my first "Junior Do" at Horwich. I have experience of the venue from other functions.
It is a good venue, with good facilities and quite a central venue for all.

I would say that everybody made the best efforts to ensure that the event went well and I would say that it did.

Only problem is that fell runners are spread far and wide, and particularly Junior Fell runners. I would not know the exact attendance figures, but I would guess at about 50% of the award winners came.

The venue was probably too big for the people that came. So either a smaller venue would suit, or somehow getting more bodies to the presentation.

Maybe a way of helping this would be to have an end of season non-championship race and make the presentation tie in with that.

    Good luck anyway.

    Hi Lecky
WP is right, we just need some non-championship event (relay?) or theme to attract more juniors. Ian Smith (past coordinator) could help with a run prior to the presentation. Or a theme like the Woodheads 'Spooky Do' which went down very well. Timing may be an issue - last year most u/18's had started uni/college so it was hard for them to get there - whatever, you won't be able to please everyone! You could always quiz prospective contenders to see what they'd like.
    A circular route mostly downhill

Rivington would be the perfect venue for something as well. Races just before & after midday with presentation at RMI club from 2:30 - 4:00 finish and everyone can get home at a decent time.

Make it a Sunday to avoid clash with the XC leagues that are starting then.
