    New Ultra event (Hardmoors110)

There's a new British ultra event (110 miles along the Cleveland
Way in September) for anyone who's interested. Perhaps a wee bit OT for a Fell running forum but no doubt it'll be of interest to some here. Similar format to WHW race (in that you'll need a motorised support crew).

(No personal involvement, just spreading the news).

Interesting idea just a shame about needing motorised support, but i am considering it.

Yep, that aspect of the WHW (& the Hardmoors110) is a bit of a b*gger but from an organisers point of view, I guess it makes putting on such an event much easier.

I'd much rather have the event (with such preconditions) than no event at all.

Looks a great idea on paper. Start is about 4 miles from my home, so it would be OK to recce bits of it (in theory).

The motorised transport requirement is still a bit of a turn-off, to be honest; I do understand the tempation from the organisers to turn to this arrangement.

I think the overwhelming negative will be family wedding on the same weekend. No chance of getting out of that one, unless it's called off...

Entry fee ......... £60.00 and you have to provide your own backup !!

Still, you receive a 'goody bag'
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.

I agree with previous sentiments. Motorised support and support runners if needed , excessive cost and some quite frankly silly rules . for example :what use would you find for a reflective vest in the middle of the moors? I can understand on road sections , but on the moors? I suppose they have to cover all eventualities but more rules tend to turn me off an event.

Its great to see such interest in mine and Jon Steele's event!
regarding kit list requirements, we do indeed have to cover all eventualities and must insist that all runners have certain items. These items must however be carried, if you choose not to wear them then that is out of our hands. There are several road crossings and some particularly busy ones at that. The majority of these are to be crossed at night and so we feel that high vis must be worn here.
Please keep an eye on the news page of our website www.hardmoors110.co.uk for updates on the contents of the goodie bag and confirmations for the winners' ceremony.
Hope to see some of you there!

If someone can navigate the length of the Cleveland way , with large proportions in the dark , then i think they'll be able to manage to cross a road.

Only quickly read the details on the website, but to me I would not enter this simply because you have to provide your own support, and pay £60 for the privilege.

You don't have to spend £60 to do a self-supported 100 mile run !! Plus, some of the rules - Aaarghh !

I've done 12 of the LDWA 100 mile events previously and for a fraction of the price you receive fantastic support from the organisers.
